The members of USAEDC work hand-in-hand with their growers and processors to create a unified approach to export marketing, recognizing their competition and devising methods to address it. Working closely with their respective commodity divisions within the Foreign Agricultural Service, the USAEDC members identify potential markets, develop strategic plans to overcome barriers to trade and to promote agricultural exports and evaluate the effectiveness of these efforts and modify them as necessary to achieve the overall goal of increased exports. In addition to the staff in the Washington, DC office, the members also work with the members of the Foreign Agricultural Affairs office who staff the overseas agricultural offices as Minister-Counselors, Agricultural Trade Officers and Agricultural Attachés. The staffs of the International Trade Policy Office and the Office for International Cooperation and Development also play a pivotal role in working with the members to create and maintain these overseas markets. Other agencies within USDA – Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS), Animal Plant & Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Economic Research Service, National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) - all contribute immensely to the success of the export programs.
